We have been talking a lot in Minnesota about Protective Factors that prevent child abuse and neglect from happening in the first place. In this workshop, we spent time talking about "Emotional Intelligence for Child Nurturers" a strategy focusing on two protective factors: Increasing Parental Resilience and the Social-Emotional Competence of Children. The strategy we shared in this workshop to promote these protective factors was Understanding Adult Brain Science to Practice and Teach Emotional Intelligence.
We also took some time for participants to share with us and one another about strategies that they are using in their communities to promote protective factors, what challenges they are facing, and what opportunities they see for the future. (See a list of the five protective factors we are focusing on here).
