Preventing Child Neglect by Building on Community and Family Strengths - Tuesday, July 13, 2010
Neglect is the most common form of child maltreatment, and yet it can be the most difficult type of abuse to understand. It can also have devastating lifelong effects on a child. This videoconference explored systemic poverty and strength-based ways to end poverty and support families to reduce child neglect. Not all children living in poverty experience neglect. However, systemic poverty makes it much more difficult for families to meet the basic needs of their children. When we acknowledge all families strengths and work to end systemic poverty we can prevent child neglect.
