Video on Working Together to Prevent Child Abuse
"Circles of Caring," a video from Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia, demonstrates that everyone can play a role in preventing child abuse. The Circles of Caring concept is based on research from the Center for the Study of Social Policy's Strengthening Families Initiative, which identifies several protective factors linked to reduced occurrences of child abuse and neglect. The video explains how individuals, groups, and communities can form the following Circles of Caring to support child development and prevent abuse. |

Supporting Parents and Children
The heart of our organization is a network of parent and children's support groups called Circle of Parents® that meet weekly across the state. These community and collaborating partners are known as Chapters. All groups operate on a shared leadership model with parent participants, and provide non-judgmental support to parents as well as organized programming for children. The parent support groups help parents to improve their parenting skills and strengthen their family relationships. During weekly meetings, parents share the challenges and successes of child rearing. Group meetings provide opportunities for parents to exchange ideas, meet other parents, and talk about their feelings in safe and supportive surroundings. To learn more about Circle of Parents®, please call us at (651) 523-0099. You may click HERE to access our Circle of Parents® Web page.
Teaching Prevention
We sponsor an annual statewide Child Abuse Prevention Conference and offer training to support community prevention efforts in small group workshops across Minnesota throughout the year. We also produce April’s statewide Child Abuse Prevention Month Blue Ribbon education campaign, distributing more than 300,000 Blue Ribbon stickers, which include parenting tips on the back. Each spring we produce a comprehensive child abuse prevention month packet for local community leaders, and we facilitate several videoconference training workshops on how to effectively create a child abuse prevention campaign in smaller communities throughout Minnesota.
Providing Information
We publish and distribute thousands of abuse prevention materials including Parent Survival Tips and Shopping with Your Children. We also maintain a resource library with up-to-date books and videos on preventing child abuse and neglect.
Creating Leaders
We develop parent leaders in our parenting groups with the goal of fostering leadership skills that transfer to their homes and communities. This effort also extends to the governance of our organization itself in which our Parent Leadership Team serves alongside our Board of Directors. The Parent Leadership Team provides valuable guidance from the perspective of active or past parent program participants.
Speaking on Behalf of Children
The Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota Speakers Bureau was created in 2004 to provide a forum for dialogue, outreach, and education on the prevention of child abuse and neglect. We provide speakers for private, public, and nonprofit organizations.
